The musical journey embarked upon by Coins Parallèles serves as a compelling bridge between the sonorous realms of leisure and obligation. Guided by a harmonious constellation of influences ranging from the captivating rhythms of the Buzzcocks to the audacious spirit of Gang Of Four and the perennial allure of the ever-evolving new wave scene, C.P defies the stereotypical Quebecois musical paradigm.

Drawing inspiration from the ebb and flow of daily life, Coins Parallèles weaves together the rich tapestry of the late 70s and early 80s soundscape, merging it seamlessly with a beguiling and singular proto-punk style. In this symphonic exploration, the lyrics, though elegantly simple, strike like a well-composed melody, addressing a diverse array of themes. These lyrical compositions encompass the melancholic counterpoints of mental illness, the crescendos and diminuendos of the music industry, and the dissonant chords of societal hypocrisy.

All of Liiek’s album covers are incredibly compelling, and their take on post-punk is just as appealing. As much as I liked their first album, this follow up is much more cohesive, delivering a perfect amalgamation of melody and dissonance. Glad I was able to find a copy on vinyl. kel kontraire
